40c9 1 743152 Marcel Bouraine Harlequin Bronze Ivory LampNormally I will blog about Art Deco lamps which are available in the average collectors price range but why not kick off the blog with a $40,000 bronze Marcel Bouraine Art Deco lamp? Apparently another lamp by Bouraine just sold at Sotheby’s for $78,000. The particular lamp is very detailed and the colors/patina are still well intact. It appears the glass “shades” are still intact as well. You can read more about the lamp and see additional pictures at the auction listing.

I have a table lamp with two harlequin males holding what appears to be an alabaster moon. They are lying on their backs and holding the moon on the bottom of their feet. Their faces are a white plastic material, and the bodies are possibly brass…color is dark gold. The men rest on a black base. Nice detail and great condition. Was purchased in the 1930′s in Cleveland, OH. Does anyone have any information about this item? I can find no manufacturer’s name on the lamp.

Carol, I think I am looking for the lamp that you describe. Is your lamp like the one shown on this page? http://www.icollector.com/ART-DECO-HARLEQUIN-TABLE-LAMP-WITH-ALABASTER-SHAD_i8472220

This was a lamp given to me by my grandmother and it was stolen. I’m trying to repace it. Would you be interested in selling it?

I purchased that lamp from Mondial Antiques New York in October 2008. It was made approx 1935-37. Finding it very difficult to find a valuer here in Australia. It is definately not a copy as it is made from ivory and patternated bronze on a marble base.

I was sent a valuation certificate by the dealer and at that time prices had come down because of the GFC.

Does anybody know how many of these examples were made?
